Lina Vargas De La Hoz

Wooden ring sculpture made from a tree growth ring, circular form with an opening, photographed on a neutral background.

Annual rings serve as markers of time, light, and environmental influence, recording growth as both accumulation and interruption. This sculptural work isolates and reconstructs the structure of a tree ring that refers to the period of 1984 marking the artist’s birth year. By translating natural growth into a controlled yet disrupted form, the work makes time visible as a physical structure shaped by material conditions, environmental forces, and human intervention, while questioning authorship as a shared process between nature and artistic decision-making.
