The work consists of a suitcase covered in fondant.
An object associated with mobility, transition, and movement is sealed beneath a sugary coating and brought into an apparently fixed state.
The work is informed by the monumental architecture of Washington, D.C.
The city is characterized by buildings constructed from marble, sandstone, concrete, and wood — materials that convey permanence, authority, and representation. At the same time, Washington is a city shaped by continuous migration, where residents, affiliations, and biographies are in constant flux.
The suitcase refers to this mobility, while the fondant aesthetically envelops and immobilizes the object.
At first glance, the surface appears seductive, almost edible, creating a tension between attraction and obstruction.
The work approaches mobility as an ambivalent condition rather than a neutral movement.
